Description

Skip the grocery store! This Homemade Moose Tracks Ice Cream is the ultimate creamy vanilla base swirled with rich fudge and loaded with mini peanut butter cups. Easy, indulgent, and perfect for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Heavy whipping cream (cold).
  • 1 cup Whole milk (cold).
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar.
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Pure vanilla extract.
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup Chocolate fudge sauce (chilled).
  • 1 cup Peanut butter cups, chopped (miniature ones work great!).

Instructions

  • Whisk the Base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk vigorously for 2-3 minutes until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  • Chill (Optional but Recommended): For the creamiest results, cover the bowl and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before churning.
  • Churn: Pour the cold mixture into your ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 20-25 minutes) until the ice cream reaches a thick, soft-serve consistency.
  • The “Tracks” Technique: Once churned, stop the machine. Gently fold in the chilled chocolate fudge sauce and chopped peanut butter cups using a spatula. Pro Tip: Use a “swirl” motion—do not over-mix! You want distinct pockets (tracks) of fudge throughout.
  • Final Freeze: Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe, lidded container. Smooth the top with a spatula and cover tightly. Freeze for at least 4 to 6 hours, or until firm and scoopable.
  • Serve: Let the container sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping for the perfect, velvety texture.

Notes

  • Ice-Cold is Key: Make sure your heavy cream and milk are pulled straight from the fridge. Also, ensure your ice cream maker’s bowl has been frozen for at least 24 hours before starting.
  • The Fudge Secret: For the best “Moose Tracks” experience, use a thick, high-quality fudge sauce and make sure it is chilled. If the fudge is warm, it will melt into the ice cream instead of creating beautiful swirls.
  • No Ice Cream Maker? No problem! Whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks first. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, sugar, and vanilla. Gently fold the whipped cream into the milk mixture, then add your fudge and peanut butter cups. Freeze as directed.
  • Storage: To prevent ice crystals from forming, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the ice cream before putting the lid on the container. It stays fresh for up to 2 weeks!
