  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Description

Indulge in this effortlessly elegant appetizer featuring a wheel of creamy brie baked to perfection in a golden, flaky puff pastry crust. This simple recipe guarantees a show-stopping dish with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet (17.3 oz/490g) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 (8 to 16 oz) wheel of brie cheese
  • Optional: 2-3 tablespoons fruit preserves (fig, apricot, raspberry), honey, or chopped nuts
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water or milk
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prep the Pastry. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface (or use the parchment paper directly) and unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Roll it out slightly, just enough to ensure it’s a good size to wrap your brie, usually about a 10-12 inch square or circle.
  • Step 2: Assemble the Brie. Place the wheel of brie in the center of the puff pastry. If desired, spread your chosen fruit preserves, a drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top of the brie. Bring the corners and edges of the puff pastry up and over the brie, gathering and pressing the seams together to fully enclose the cheese. You can trim excess pastry or leave it for a rustic look.
  • Step 3: Brush with Egg Wash. Carefully transfer the wrapped brie, seam-side down, to the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water or milk to create an egg wash. Using a pastry brush, generously coat the entire surface of the puff pastry with the egg wash for a beautiful golden finish.
  • Step 4: Bake to Golden Perfection. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed, deeply golden brown, and the brie is soft and melted. The exact time will depend on your oven and the size of your brie.
  • Step 5: Rest and Serve. Let the baked brie rest on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes before transferring it to a serving platter. This allows the cheese to set slightly, making it easier to cut and serve. Serve warm with crackers, crusty bread, and fresh fruit.
