- 1 (12-count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 3–4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, or mayonnaise
- Optional add-ins: thin slices of ham, a pinch of garlic powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Prep the Rolls. Carefully slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally through the middle, creating a top and bottom. Keep the rolls connected.
- Step 2: Assemble the Sandwiches. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a single layer. Evenly distribute the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the entire surface. Place the top halves of the rolls back on, aligning them carefully.
- Step 3: Prepare for Grilling. In a small bowl, melt your butter or whisk your mayonnaise. Using a pastry brush, generously spread the butter or mayo over the tops of all the assembled rolls.
- Step 4: Grill to Golden Perfection. Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the entire slab of rolls, buttered/mayo-side down, into the pan. Cook for 3-5 minutes, pressing gently, until golden brown. Brush the exposed tops with more butter/mayo.
- Step 5: Flip and Finish. Carefully flip the entire slab over and cook for another 3-5 minutes, pressing occasionally, until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
- Step 6: Serve. Remove from heat, let cool for a minute, then separate into individual mini grilled cheeses and serve warm.
