Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs (680g) ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking patties)
- 4–6 brioche or potato burger buns
- 1 cup pizza sauce, divided
- 1.5 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup sliced pepperoni
- ½ cup cooked, crumbled Italian sausage (optional)
- ½ cup diced onion, sautéed
- ½ cup diced bell pepper (any color), sautéed
- Fresh basil or grated Parmesan, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Prepare Ingredients: In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4-6 patties, dimpling the center. Sauté diced onions and bell peppers in a separate pan until softened; set aside.
- 2. Sear Patties: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side to form a crust. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- 3. Assemble Burgers: Slice buns horizontally. Place bottom halves on the baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on each bun bottom. Place a seared patty on each bun bottom, then top with more pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sautéed onions/peppers, and Italian sausage (if using). Place bun tops alongside on the baking sheet.
- 4. Bake: Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and melted, buns are lightly toasted, and internal beef temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- 5. Serve: Remove from oven, place bun tops on the burgers, garnish with fresh basil or Parmesan if desired, and serve immediately.
